GRAND FALLS, December 17, 2025 - The Council of the Gand Falls Regional Municipality has approved its 2026 operating budgets, totaling $23.7 million, including $20.5 million for the general fund and $3.2 million for the water and wastewater fund.
The Council is pleased to announce that tax rates will remain unchanged in the Grand Falls and Drummond districts. The other sectors continue to move forward under the strategy introduced last year, which aims to establish four municipal tax rates across the community by 2029. This approach considers each district’s proximity to shared services and is designed to ensure a gradual, fair, and equitable transition for all residents.
Numerous water and sewer infrastructure challenges will require significant investments in the coming years. To prepare accordingly, the cost of these services will increase by $10 for the year 2026.
| 2026 Rates | Variation |
Saint-André neighbourhood | 1,3012 | + 0,0200 |
Drummond neighbourhood | 1,3500 | 0 |
Grand Falls South & North neighbourhoods | 1,6000 | 0 |
Grand Falls LSD* | 0,7372 + 0,4115 = 1,1487 | + 0,0354 |
Drummond LSD* | 0,7844 + 0,4115 = 1,1959 | + 0,0270 |
Saint-André LSD* | 0,8350 + 0,4115 = 1,2465 | + 0,0068 |
Michaud Waddell 144* | 0,8750+ 0,4115 = 1,2865 | + 0,0068 |
*For all LSDs, an amount of $0.4115 is collected by the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.
At a time when the province is assigning new responsibilities to municipalities while maintaining a freeze on property tax rates, Council has directed available resources toward priorities that safeguard public safety and maintain residents’ quality of life. The 2026 budget focuses on targeted investments, including:
$2.1 million for water and wastewater infrastructure to ensure reliable, long-term service.
$1.45 million for recreational, sports, and tourism facilities to strengthen local amenities and support tourism development.
$1.27 million will be allocated to the purchase of specialized equipment for the Police Force and to continued preparedness efforts to protect the entire area served by the municipality.
$990,355 for specialized equipment and the purchase of a new fire truck for the Drummond area.
$626,000 for municipal operations equipment to maintain and enhance daily services.
These choices reflect Council’s commitment to protecting essential services while preparing the municipality for future challenges.
“Our municipality is facing a difficult equation: more responsibilities, but no additional financial flexibility due to the provincial tax rate freeze. Despite these challenges, we have adopted a responsible budget that safeguards essential services while continuing to invest in our infrastructure and in the well-being of our residents. The 2026 budget reflects our commitment to building a strong, efficient, and forward-looking community,” said Bertrand Beaulieu, Mayor of the Regional Municipality of Grand Falls.
