Arrest and Court Appearance of Sylvain Laviolette

GRAND FALLS, October 31, 2025 – The Grand Falls Police Force, in close collaboration with the Vancouver RCMP and the Sheriff’s Office of the Department of Justice and Public Safety of New Brunswick, confirms that Sylvain Laviolette was apprehended in British Columbia last week. He was escorted under guard and returned to New Brunswick to face further judicial proceedings.
Sylvain Laviolette appeared this afternoonbefore the Provincial Court in Edmundston, in connection with the following charges:
Sexual Assault, 271(a) CCC
Sexual Interference, 151(a) CCC
Invitation to Sexual Touching, 152(a) CCC
Assault with a Weapon, 267(a) CCC
Assault, 266(a) CCC
Failure to Comply with a Probation Order, 733.1(1)(a) CCC
At his court appearance, it was determined that Sylvain Laviolette will remain in custody until his next court appearance on November 18, 2025.
It should be noted that Sylvain Laviolette had been wanted since July 2025 in connection with this case. As the matter is now before the courts, the GFPF will not be providing further comments regarding the evidence or specific details of the file in order to protect the integrity of the judicial process.
