GRAND FALLS, July 15, 2026 – During its regular public meeting on July 15, 2026, the municipal council presented a Grandioses Communautaires award in the Community category to the Lagace family: Gilbert, Sherri, and Hunter Lagace.

LAGACE FAMILY

Some families help shape a community through their dedication, generosity, and ability to bring people together. The Lagacé family is a wonderful example of this.

For nearly 18 years, Gilbert, Sherri, and Hunter have devoted their time, energy, and passion to growing the sport of curling in our region. Their commitment goes far beyond working with young athletes. They are key members of the entire curling community, helping recruit new members, coaching curlers of all ages, organizing tournaments, and supporting the success of their club. Thanks to them, curling is much more than a sport, it is a place where people come together, support one another, and build lasting friendships.

Their dedication to young people is especially inspiring. By sharing their passion, respect, and team spirit, they are helping shape the next generation of curlers. One simple sentence shared by Sherri after a practice says it all. As the young curlers left the arena smiling and parents stayed behind talking, she said, "That's why we're here. We're a family." That family includes everyone in the curling community they continue to build and support.

Their commitment also reaches beyond the curling club. Gilbert has served as a volunteer firefighter for 27 years, proudly protecting and serving the community. Following in his father's footsteps, Hunter joined the Drummond Junior Fire Department at the age of 13.

Through their dedication, volunteer spirit, and genuine desire to make a difference, Gilbert, Sherri, and Hunter Lagacé make our community stronger and inspire everyone around them. It is with great pride that we thank them for all they do by presenting them with the Grandioses Community Volunteer Award this evening.
