GRAND FALLS, October 22, 2026 – During its regular public meeting on October 20, 2026, the municipal council presented a Community Grandioses Communautaires award in the Volunteer category to Norma and Stillman Baker.

Grandioses communautaires- Grand-Sault, Norma et Stillman Baker

we are proud to recognize two people who give so much of themselves to help others: Norma and Stillman Baker, our Community Grandioses Volunteer Award recipients.

Week after week, Norma and Stillman volunteer their time and energy to run the second-hand sale in the basement of St. Patrick’s Church. Their hard work helps raise the money needed to keep the church open, while also making a real difference in the lives of people in their community.

For many, this sale is about much more than finding a bargain. It offers an affordable way to furnish a home, buy clothing, and find the things people need for everyday life. By giving used items, a second life, Norma and Stillman help make these essentials more accessible while encouraging a spirit of sharing and helping one another. It’s a simple idea that brings real benefits to the community.

Their kindness doesn’t stop there. When a family loses a loved one, Norma and Stillman are there to lend a hand. When asked, they prepare meals for grieving families and rearrange the entire sale area to make room for tables where family and friends can gather. They set aside their usual work to help create a warm and welcoming space where people can come together and support one another during a difficult time.

These acts of kindness may happen behind the scenes, but their impact is felt throughout the community. They take time, hard work, and a willingness to show up whenever they’re needed. Most of all, they come from a genuine desire to help others.

Norma and Stillman remind us of what volunteering is all about. It’s about caring for people, lending a hand when it matters most, and helping build a community where everyone feels welcome and supported.

On behalf of the Grand Falls Regional Municipality, thank you, Norma and Stillman, for all that you do and for the kindness and care you bring to your community. We are grateful to have people like you in our community!
