Aletre à la fraude à Grand-Sault, NB

Since we are now in the Holiday season, the Grand Falls Police Force wants to remind everyone to be careful when it comes to sharing personal or banking information online, since it is opening a door to what we all know as “scammers” or “hackers”.

The Grand Falls Police Force would also like to share tips and advice on how to recognize a scam and what to do if it happens to you.

Scammers work day and night to develop new ways to scam people, but there is always some psychological tools that they will use. The main psychological tools used by “scammers” or “hackers” are: Stress; Pressure; Fear; and Love

Scammers will use personal information that they can find online on a certain person and create a personalized scenario that obligates the person to react under stress and make decision without thinking if the scenario is real or not.

The best way to prevent being scam, is by knowing the signs. Scammers will put pressure on their victim to force them to react without thinking and they will create a stressful scenario that can be specific to each of their victim. Don’t be shy to ask for questions before sending money to anyone you don’t know.

Please advise the Grand Falls Police Force if you or someone you know has been asked to provide personal or banking information online by an unknown individual or someone that was never seen in real life or if you have any questions regarding fraud contact the Grand Falls Police Force at (506)475-7767.
