Le Marché agricole de Grand-Sault: une tradition qui évolue pour un avenir plus durable.

Grand Falls, August 19, 2026 – The Grand Falls Farmers’ Market is taking a greener approach. With the support of financial partners, the Market is introducing new practices and upgrading its facilities to reduce waste, promote more responsible use of resources, and continue encouraging the purchase of local products.

This new approach, known as the “Green Market,” is a natural extension of the Farmers’ Market’s mission. It aims to reduce the use of single-use products and encourage the reuse of equipment. The purchase of a new commercial dishwasher will make it possible to wash and reuse dishes and other equipment used during Market activities, reducing reliance on disposable products.

The green initiative also includes improvements to the building that houses the Farmers’ Market, a facility that holds an important place in the community’s history. Plumbing and electrical upgrades have helped better meet the Market’s operational needs and support the use of more efficient equipment, while promoting more responsible use of water and energy.

“For us, the Green Market represents a practical improvement to the way we operate. The new equipment and upgrades to the building will make our operations easier, allow us to reuse more of our equipment, and provide better conditions for our producers and vendors,” said Carole Savage-Kavanaugh, President of the Grand Falls Farmers’ Market.

The project was made possible through the support of Farm Credit Canada and the Regional Development Corporation, with the collaboration of the Regional Municipality of Grand Falls and a $10,000 financial contribution from the Grand Falls Farmers’ Market. The Farmers’ Market also received $25,000 from the AgriSpirit Fund and $24,000 from the Regional Development Corporation, for a total investment of $59,000 toward improving its facilities and developing a more sustainable market.

“Community spaces like the Grand Falls Farmers’ Market bring people together and provide an important place for local farmers, producers and artisans to sell their products,” said Environment and Climate Change Minister and Minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation Gilles LePage. “We are proud to support improvements that will strengthen this important gathering place and help it continue to serve the community for years to come.” shared Gilles LePage, Minister of Environment and Climate Change and Minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation.

“The Farmers’ Market is part of our history and remains an important gathering place for our community. Through this initiative, we can preserve this important part of our heritage while giving it the tools to evolve. The Green Market is a great way to bring together local purchasing, sustainability, and community vitality,” said Bertrand Beaulieu, Mayor of the Regional Municipality of Grand Falls.

Beyond the improvements to the building, the Green Market concept reinforces the Farmers’ Market’s role as a place where producers and the community come together. By providing an important platform for local producers and food processors, the Market supports shorter supply chains, improves access to local products, and encourages consumers to make choices that have a direct impact on their community.
