Grand Falls, August 10, 2025 – This Sunday, a ceremonial first pitch was thrown during an exhibition game between Grand Falls’ U13 minor baseball team and Edmundston to officially mark the reopening of the newly upgraded baseball field in the Saint-André neighbourhood.
Located in the heart of the neighbourhood, the field had long required major upgrades to better meet the evolving needs of the community and its young athletes. The revitalization project represents a significant investment of nearly $288,000, made possible through a $173,000 contribution from the Grand Falls Regional Municipality and over $115,000 in funding from the Regional Development Corporation (RDC).
The project included a complete redesign of the field, the replacement of dugouts, installation of a new backstop, updated bases, a modern scoreboard, and energy-efficient lighting to support both safety and sustainability.
“This project is a great example of how partnership and collaboration can enhance quality of life in our neighbourhoods. Beyond encouraging active living and access to sports, these new facilities breathe new energy into the Saint-André area and reinforce its role as a vibrant community gathering place. We extend our sincere thanks to the RDC for their valuable contribution to this important and lasting investment in our community.”, Mayor of the Grand Falls Regional Municipality, Bertrand Beaulieu
“The revitalization of this baseball field is about more than just a game — it’s about investing in our youth, our community and our shared future,” said Chuck Chiasson, Minister of Transportation and MLA for Grand Falls-Vallée-des-Rivières-Saint-Quentin. “These upgrades will give young athletes a safe and modern place to grow their skills and love for the sport. We are proud to support projects that bring people together, promote healthy living, and strengthen the ties that help our communities thrive.”
Chiasson spoke on behalf of Gilles LePage, Minister of Environment and Climate Change and Minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation.
By improving the accessibility and quality of local sports infrastructure, the municipality reaffirms its commitment to offering safe, inclusive, and modern spaces that support health, recreation, and social connection for all residents.
