One Mural, Eight Stories: Grand Falls Celebrates Its Heritage

Grand Falls, November 4, 2026 – The Grand Falls Regional Municipality is celebrating the history, heritage and identity of its various communities through a public art project featuring one large mural made up of eight themed panels. The mural is located on the exterior wall of the Grand Falls Curling Club, along Victoria Street, creating a new space to showcase the region’s local heritage.
Following the selection process, the project committee selected the proposal submitted by Natt Cann, a New Brunswick-based visual artist, to bring this project to life. The eight panels tell different parts of the region’s story, highlighting the places, people and activities that have helped shape the identity of the Grand Falls Regional Municipality. The themes include:
· On the Rails of Our History (Railway Trestle Bridge)
· The Power of Water (Hydroelectric Power Plant)
· Serving the Community (Former Post Office and Town Hall)
· Where Stories Meet (Gazebo on Broadway Boulevard)
· Nature’s Beauty (Four Falls)
· The Richness of Our Land (Farmers’ Market and Burgess Sawmill)
· At the Heart of the Current (Marina and the mystery of Locomotive 508)
· The Roots of a Community (Ouellette Family Home and Agriculture)
“Our history is rich, and every community and generation has its own stories to tell. This mural gives us an opportunity to showcase that richness, celebrate the things that shape our shared identity, and create a new cultural and tourism attraction that both residents and visitors can enjoy,” says Mayor Bertrand Beaulieu.
Beyond its artistic value, the project is designed to offer an interactive and historical experience rather than simply being an artwork to admire. Next spring, an information plaque and QR code will be installed near the mural, allowing residents and visitors to access historical information, local stories and interesting facts about the eight themes. The goal is to turn this project into an outdoor interactive heritage gallery that encourages people to discover and learn more about the region’s history.
The initiative also supports several objectives of the Municipal Cultural Policy, adopted in September 2025, including promoting local history and heritage, recognizing the identity of the different communities, and making culture more accessible in public spaces.
The Grand Falls Regional Municipality also acknowledges the $30,000 in funding from the Department of Tourism, Heritage and Culture, provided through Arts Culture NB under the Community Public Art Program. This support helps bring to life a project that combines art, heritage and community beautification while contributing to the cultural and tourism appeal of Grand Falls.
