La Municipalité régionale de Grand-Sault pleure le décès de Ron Turcotte

The Grand Falls Regional Municipality is deeply saddened by the passing of Mr. Ron Turcotte, world-renowned jockey and proud New Brunswicker, whose remarkable achievements forever changed the history of horse racing.

Born in Drummond, Ron Turcotte rose to international fame as the jockey of Secretariat, the legendary thoroughbred with whom he captured the U.S. Triple Crown in 1973. That victory remains one of the most celebrated moments in the history of the sport. Despite his international recognition, Mr. Turcotte never lost sight of his roots. He carried with him a deep pride for his hometown and his province, inspiring generations with his humility, generosity, and courage.

“Ron Turcotte was more than a champion on the racetrack—he was a source of pride for Grand Falls and for New Brunswick. His story is one of perseverance and extraordinary achievement, but also of community and belonging. On behalf of our Municipality, I extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones, and our gratitude for the legacy he leaves behind,” said Bertrand Beaulieu,Mayor of the Grand Falls Regional Municipality.

The Municipality honours not only the athlete, but also the man whose name and spirit will remain forever tied to our community and its history. The flags on municipal buildings will be flown at half-mast.
